BOO YAG and Reflections of the UG Retreat

The undergrad retreat was truly an experience that we will never forget. We would love to hear your thoughts on the retreat and celebrate all that God did. Please post a comment below, share your BOO YAG, and give glory to our awesome God!

Note: BOO YAG = Big, Outrageous, Over-the-top, You're Awesome God!

Containers

It is not so much what the container looks like, but the content that it holds. It is so true that God uses the weak, feeble, and disabled to convey his glory and power. I look around to see that there are so many of us that are seemingly good containers, but the content we display through our actions, thoughts, and words do not reflect that of God's content. It was my prayer that I could draw inspiration from the people I know in my life with weak containers but strong content, and to apply it to the things that I do within my spheres of influence and interest. I am so humbled to know so many people that are physically disabled and mentally fragile to continue to reveal the strength, perseverance, and heart that God wants in all of His people.

United in Worship

My BOOYAG: All of China united in worship of our one true God.

Creator, Savior

I was about ready to give up. That was how I felt about the vision of a church unified. People are too skeptical. They bicker too much. We're too envious to actually care about one another, much less about the people outside. What are we doing? We might as well just go it alone.

Yet after three years of being in this class and in this church together, experiencing discouragement after discouragement, hearing of pain after pain, I watched us cross the milestone where God finally declared “You have made it thus far, and are now members of one another. When one of you wept, all of you wept with her. When one of you rejoiced, all of you rejoiced together. When one of you hurt, you all hurt as one. When one of you was honored, you were all honored together.

"You now belong to one another. And this is how I desire you to be to use you.”
I was surprised, amazed, and above all overjoyed at this epiphany. Everything that we had prayed for three years ago was beginning to see fulfillment. The seeds that we thought were dead had begun to sprout. I was so overjoyed, that as I tried to share with the congregation what I was watching, I could do nothing but sob before them and before an almighty Creator God, the God who had created something beautiful out of our nothingness.

This was the power of God: to give new life to the dead. What is more, he is not done. The vision of our sister was mirrored in my joy. God wants to do so much more than he already has. He still wants to see this campus changed for Christ. The testimonies that have been recorded are but a sliver of the work that God desires to do, and is going to do.

Indeed, he has not brought us together simply for the sake of being unified. He has unified us in order that, contending as one man for the sake of the Gospel, we may shine as this church to reach the dead and dying on this campus and in this world. He has unified us so that, through us, his mighty power to bring the dead back to life may be testified to and exerted. What a stunning thought, that he could use such weak vessels like us… yet it is without a question that God is on the move, and that he delights in using the weak to show his incomparable power.

That is my prayer, that every corner of this campus will be reached with not just the Gospel, but with the very power of God through his local body right here. Time may be short, but a day is like a thousand years for our God, and if it only took him six days to give life to the world, why would I doubt that he could save a campus in less?

All I can ask now is, “What is next?” Because of this I am sure: this is only the beginning.

When I Call on Jesus...

here i am, unable to shake this vision of how God can use the realm of governments and politics to transform the world. and here i am, praying ridiculous things that i know only God can do. when i call on Jesus, He will...

...end tyrannies in north korea, china, burma(myanmar), vietnam, belarus, cuba, sudan...
...end exploitation of children as soldiers, prostitutes, and laborers in uganda, cambodia, india, sierra leone, romania...
...end preventable deaths in much of the third world from curable diseases such as malaria, tb, yellow fever, pneumonia...

let justice roll on like a mighty river, righteousness like a never-failing stream...

when we call on Jesus, all things are possible.

Reinstating Child-like Faith

I never realized when I lost faith in the power of God. I had faith that God could do anything, but I didn't have FAITH that He could do ANYTHING. I had head knowledge of this, but my heart was not in it. I think this retreat brought me back to reality that God is God and that is it; no ifs ands or buts... I realized that my heart had become so hardened, without me even noticing it but when I was able to witness people coming to know Christ, see people praising God shamelessly, and hear people lifting up BOOYAG prayers something in my heart just came back to life because these things are just out of this world that show that it is only God that can do something like this.

My BOOYAG prayer is that God will redeem the government and politics of our generation and that He will use the church to be the beacon of light that represents truth and justice so that leaders of nations, even nations who are closed off to Christianity, would end up turning to the church for help and advice. I pray that in our generation billions of people in China, India, and the Middle East, even those who experienced oppression, will experience the love of Christ and live for His name rather than theirs.

Better to give....

At the retreat my small group got to witness God moving powerfully in someone's heart. He accepted Christ the last day of the retreat on Sunday! Praises! Seeing people accept Christ just never seems to get old. Powerful everytime! Seeing someone else get blessed was such a blessing to me.

Update Ourselves

I wanted to touch the secular world by "updating" ourselves and taking advantage of our new generation of technology, media, and entertainment. Let's not plague our future with drugs, sex, and violence, but hope, truth, and justice...

"The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still."
Moses ~Exodus 14:14

To the Nations

My BOO YAG: "Millions mobilized to bring the billions of the unreached people of the world to know King Jesus!"
