I've always had an interest in politics, but, like talking about Jesus, talking about politics is one of those topics that tends to get people upset. Even when discussing political issues with other Christians, it's very easy to offend or begin to judge another's views. Because of this, I usually just keep my thoughts to myself in the interest of peace and not rocking the boat.
This needs to change. As the conviction that God has called us to transform all different spheres of society has grown in me, I am more resolved that I cannot let a vital part of our world go untouched just for the sake of keeping things comfortable. If I'm not afraid to share the gospel, then should I be afraid of discussing political issues?
It is my hope that we will see more believers get involved in politics because it has such a large affect on all of the other spheres. The laws and policies enacted and enforced by governments all over the world can make a huge impact on the arts, religious freedoms, commerce, etc., and we cannot stand idly by without bringing the salt and light of Christ into this arena.
We also need to develop a deeper understanding of politics and government. For many Christians I've talked to, everything political comes down to moral laws, which, of course, are important. But there is so much more to government, both domestically and internationally, that Christians should be concerned with. I hope that more believers will develop an interest in civil liberties, social security, international trade, and health care, as well as getting involved in local government, educational initiatives, and law enforcement. And that's just to scratch the surface.
Above all, we need to learn to pray for what is going on in the world. Sometimes I get a feeling of hopelessness as I read about political situations in the United States, Iran, France, Myanmar, Jerusalem, China, and many other places, but I need to remember that God is sovereign over all things. Let's hope that we have the privilege of participating with God in His work, both through prayer and action.
The Enviroment
It kind of weird for me but I have become more and more worried about the environmental changes that have been happening to the earth. I understand that we need to go to the ends of the earth to spread the faith but I don't see the reason why we shouldn't worry about nature, God create us and Earth, trees, animal, etc... . If God created Earth wouldn't God want us to protect it too while spreading the faith?

good point
You make a good point, Howard, and looking back I wish I had mentioned the environment in my original post. Environmental concerns are often overlooked in Christian circles, but if we look back to Genesis we can see that God created the earth and Adam and Eve were called to steward it and watch over it. Hopefully this is another area that Christians can become more involved in.
